Efficacy of 2 botanical aphicides

Efficacy of 2 botanical aphicides, chicoric and 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acids, on aphids susceptible and resistant to synthetic insecticides

Abstract : Dicaffeoyltartaric acid (diCT) and 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid (3,5-diCQ) extracted from plants exhibit promising aphicidal properties against various aphid species. Tests on laboratory strains and wild populations of Myzus persicae (the green peach aphid) showed variability in sensitivity, with low resistance levels and no cross-resistance with synthetic insecticides. Only a clone of Aphis craccivora, collected from a plant rich in diCT, displayed significant resistance, indicating a high-level resistance mechanism. These active substances remain promising candidates for biological control of M. persicae in agriculture.
